Summary

As an Apprentice in our Signalling department you will work with experienced Engineers and Technicians. Specialising in Signalling, which is integral to successful and safe running of our railway. You will learn whilst working hands on, carrying out daily maintenance tasks and fault finding on Signalling system and facilitate Signalling projects.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

•        Understand and respect Health, Safety, and operational procedures.

•        Learn to perform planned maintenance of equipment in accordance with approved maintenance instructions and schedules to achieve reliability and maximum availability.

•        Become competent in undertaking fault diagnostic work and perform consequential corrective maintenance, of Signalling equipment in accordance with approved diagnostic procedures, and instructions to ensure the equipment is returned to service, in a safe and timely manner.

•        Know how to record and report equipment performance against agreed instructions and schedules.

•        Become proficient in the use of all computerised administrative systems.

•        To work productively as part of fully integrated team, demonstrating the expected company ethics, values and behaviours.

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade 5 and above)
  • Maths (grade 5 and above)
  • Science Engineering Technology (grade 5 and above)

Desirable qualifications

Other in:

  • Electrical (grade HNC or ONC)
