Summary

Tatworth Primary School is looking for an energetic and committed Teaching Assistant Apprentice to join their team of Teaching Assistants. You will need to be enthusiastic and passionate about supporting children and their learning and keen to start a career where you can ensure that children achieve the best they can.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

Working with specified groups (or individuals) to achieve the learning focus set by the classroom teacher, providing feedback on their engagement in activities and their achievement of the desired learning focus.  This involves understanding and respecting the learning styles and preferences of student/s and using this knowledge to support the students(s) when working on their own or in groups.

·         Providing care and support for the students

·         Promoting student well-being by encouraging them to develop good relationships with others, developing their self-reliance and self-esteem and helping them to adjust to new settings

·         Contributing to the planning and evaluation of learning activities

·         Assisting the classroom teacher by implementing agreed learning activities

·         Providing feedback to students in relation to attainment and progress under the guidance of the teacher

·         Supporting students to improve their English and maths skills through focused learning activities and more generally across the curriculum

·         Sharing your observations and support knowledge to contribute to the development and wellbeing of the student/s, including how well the activities achieved the learning objectives

·         Assisting in preparing and maintaining the learning environment

·         Working under the direction of the classroom teacher and SENCO to ensure that all learning resources and materials are available and ready for use when needed

·         Developing and maintaining working relationships with colleagues

·         Supporting teachers in managing class behaviour

  • Apply behaviour management strategies in line with organisational policy.
  • Adapt resources to support all learners.
  • Communicate with teachers to ensure clarity of the TA’s role.
  • Apply teaching strategies to deliver learning activities or interventions.
  • Build relationships with learners, teachers, other professionals and stakeholders.
  • Comply with legislation, guidance, and procedures for Prevent, safeguarding and health & safety.
  • Support the well-being and mental health of learners.
  • Observe, record, and report on learners in line with organisational procedures.
  • Apply methods of formative assessment.
  • Use up to date technology safely, to support learning.
  • Encourage safe use of technology by learners.
  • Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning).
  • Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
  • Provide feedback to learners.
