Summary

You will be working in a bustling Honda Dealership as an Apprentice Service Technician. This position offers a great opportunity to work for a leading retailer whilst obtaining industry and nationally recognised qualifications. Duties will include carrying out servicing of cars, diagnosis of faults, repairs and general workshop maintenance.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

An exciting opportunity for an apprentice to work alongside qualified Honda technicians where you will be fully trained in all aspects of maintenance and repair of cars from routine servicing to electrical fault diagnostics.

  • You will be an Apprentice service and diagnostic car technician in a busy workshop environment
  • You will carry out tasks relevant to maintaining and repairing cars
  • To assist qualified technicians with servicing and repairs
  • To observe best work practices, develop and maintain skills levels in all aspects of repair, service and maintenance of cars
  • To maintain a clean and safe work environment
  • To maintain personal standards of dress, cleanliness and hygiene, consistent with the standards laid down by the company
  • To be responsible for the safety of yourself and others, using protective equipment when required
  • To develop and maintain a thorough and current product knowledge
  • To ensure a consistently high level of quality and workmanship
  • To advise the Workshop Controller or Service Advisor of any additional work necessary on a vehicle during servicing
  • Assistance with any other tasks as required

Course contents
  • Contribute to the maintenance of a safe and efficient workshop. Segregate waste for disposal or recycling. Comply with industry environmental legislation.
  • Demonstrate due regard for own safety and that of others in the workshop and minimise risk of injury and vehicle damage.
  • Carry out fundamental tasks associated with removal and replacement procedures on a vehicle.
  • Obtain diagnostic and repair information.
  • Interpret diagnostic information and use electrical wiring diagrams to determine system serviceability.
  • Use a range of diagnostic equipment.
  • Follow recognised diagnostic procedures, logical diagnostic sequence and apply advanced diagnostic principles and problem-solving techniques to establish faults.
  • Report faults using company procedures and recommend suitable further actions.
  • Follow recognised repair procedures to complete a wide range of repairs including those which involve complex procedures, or in depth knowledge.
  • Test the function of repaired and fitted components.
  • Adhere to business processes and complete documentation following workplace procedures.
  • Use ICT to create emails, word-process documents and carry out web based searches.
  • Complete a range of services and inspect and prepare a vehicle to the required quality standard for handover to the customer.
  • Your training plan

    • Training consists of 17 weeks block training over a 3-year period with the remainder of your time being spent at a Honda retailer where practical training and guidance will be provided
    • You will be working towards an Advanced Motor Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician - Light Vehicle Apprenticeship (Level 3) along with Functional Skills in maths and English at Level 2
    • Honda Challenge Personal Development Programme
    • You will also work towards Honda internal qualifications.
    • As part of your training, you will attend our Honda Apprenticeship technical centre in Bracknell for block release training (accommodation and transport costs will be covered by your employer)

    GCSE or equivalent in:

    • Any (grade Grade A*-C/9-4 or equivalent)
