Within this role you will be assisting with payroll, preparing bank reconciliations, VAT returns and more.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

  • Office admin duties
  • Answering the office phone
  • Assisting with processing payroll and pensions on a weekly and monthly basis
  • Preparing bank reconciliations and analysis with the potential to then start preparing schedules, trial balance’s and then full financial statements
  • Assisting with bookkeeping and VAT returns
  • General accountancy admin duty’s such as applying for HMRC authorisation, setting up clients on our systems and engaging/disengaging clients

Course contents
  • Record transactional data.
  • Use the organisation’s standard tools and processes to examine data to identify transactional issues such as, reconciliations and inconsistencies between invoices.
  • Recognise and rectify routine errors, escalating as necessary.
  • Plan and review accounting and finance tasks.
  • Communicate with stakeholders to deliver accurate and timely results, avoiding jargon, using language tailored to the audience and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.
  • Use finance and accounting software packages to accurately input and manage data to contribute to routine accounting tasks.
  • Handle data and digital technology in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.

    Day release at Newcastle Site (Stamp Exchange, Westgate Road, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, NE1 1SA)  

    • On and off-the-job training 
    • AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting
    • Institute of Certified Bookkeepers Certificate in Bookkeeping
    • Institute of Accountants and Bookkeepers Level 2 Certificate in Accounting and Business

    Requirements

    Essential qualifications

    GCSE or equivalent in:

    • Maths and English (grade 4)

She runs the company with her experienced team of staff based in our office in North Shields.
