Summary

As a Toolmaker Technician, you will be hands-on, learning toolmaking skills including servicing and repairing tools and using lathes, millers and grinders to manufacture new tools. This is a fantastic opportunity to work toward becoming a fully skilled Toolroom technician.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

Plastic Omnium placed 7th in the 2019 INPI ranking of the automotive industry. This brilliant role will involve: MISSION

• Maintain all compression tools on site.

• Support and contribute IPI targets.

• Support production and quality department to minimise scrap levels.

• Support projects team through the industrialisation of new tools arriving on site.

• Support Toolroom Technicians in daily activities.

ACTIVITIES

• Manufacturing and trialling new mould tools, preparing the tool for plant industrialisation.

• Tool maintenance and repairs

• Once trained usage of lathes, grinders, milling machines and drills.

• Ability to TIG / MIG weld – external training will be provided

• Polishing and fabrication, once trained

• Use of hydraulic systems and electrical systems on mould tools.

• Level 1, 2 and 3 tool PM schedules

• Mould tool changes In exchange

Together with invaluable commercial and practical experience, you’ll gain several academic and vocational qualifications throughout your time with us, which are fully paid for, including: 

● Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Competence)  – off the job full-time at Make UK in Aston, Birmingham in year 1

● Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Competence) 

● Level 3 BTEC Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge)

● In house training in line with your requirements

Requirements

Essential qualifications

GCSE or equivalent in:

  • English Language (grade 5 / C)
  • Maths (grade 5 / C)

Desirable qualifications

BTEC or equivalent in:

  • Engineering (grade Level 2 Pass)
