Summary

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to play a pivotal role in implementing the college's Digital Strategy, whilst attending an NSG apprentice program. Whilst being supported and mentored by our staff, the successful candidate will be able to have a "hands-on" role on new and emerging technologies, tools, techniques & preparing them.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

  • To support the Network & Communications Engineering team to ensure all new services undergo IT Testing and Integration framework
  • Ensure all configuration changes within the Network & Communications Estate and supporting processes are fully tested and documented
  • Test and Integrate Services to ensure that services meet the requirements of the customer and can be released to Live in a controlled manner
  • Provide 3rd Line Incident and Problem Management support to IT Services
  • Ensure all Testing and Operational Support documentation is accepted by Ops prior to Go Live
  • Participate in the Major Incident Process response
  • To maintain and administer the Middlesbrough College Network(s) and associated LAN and WAN technologies
  • Be the technical resource for IT projects as required
  • Deputise for the Network, Comms & Telephony TL as required by the Head of IT
  • Actively support the implementation of the digital strategy for the College
  • Work to implement and maintain highest industry standards and help to achieve necessary accreditations such as Cyber Essentials +
  • Actively monitor the network to ensure that optimum performance is available to the end-users and react appropriately to associated warnings and alerts. This includes during non-standard hours in the event of service failure
  • Administer and maintain the compliance and governance module within M365, adhering, where reasonably practicable, to recommended actions
  • Administer and maintain the current MDM solution and associated device and user policies in line with recommended standards
  • Administer and maintain the networking platform within any cloud infrastructure utilised by the College
  • Administer and maintain the telephony platform(s) and assist future deployments
  • Administer and maintain the internet content filtering system and process implemented within the College and provide relevant reports to the DSL team
  • Assist in scheduled penetration and DR testing, reviewing lessons learnt and implementing changes as required to improve the process(es)
  • Adhere to the change control process for changes to live systems
  • Assist with the capacity management service in relation to the infrastructure within the college. This will be done by analysing and determining the performance and capacity of individual elements of the estate and the timely quantification, design, and assisting with the implementation of future business requirements for IT services
  • Provide assistance to any other IT teams as required to meet the needs of the organisation

  • apply the appropriate tools and techniques to gather information to troubleshoot issues and isolate, repair or escalate faults
  • communicate outcomes of tasks and record in line with organisational procedures and SLAs including adherence to customer service standards
  • upgrade, apply and test components to systems configurations ensuring that the system meets the organisation’s requirements and minimises downtime. This should include backup processes
  • record task details whether face-to-face, remote or in writing in line with ogranisational requirements
  • interpret information received from a manager, customer or technical specialist and accurately implement the defined requirements
  • monitor, identify and implement required maintenance procedures
  • implement techniques to optimise systems performance in line with defined specifications
  • organise and prioritise clients or stakeholders’ requests in line with SLAs and organization processes
  • explain their job role within the business context to stakeholders to enable a clear understanding on both sides of what their remit is and convey technical constraints in appropriate language considering accessibility and diversity implications
  • operate securely and apply the appropriate process, policies and legislation within their business responsibilities
  • communicate with a range of stakeholders taking into consideration the organisations cultural awareness and technical ability
  • apply the appropriate level of responsibility when planning and prioritising work tasks
  • apply the relevant numerical skills (Binary, dotted decimal notation) required to meet the defined specifications
  • ensure compliance of network engineering outputs with change management processes
  • select the appropriate tools and comply with organisation policies and processes when upgrading systems
