Summary

Longsight Stables in Langho are looking to recruit an Equine Apprentice to assist in the day-to-day running of their busy riding school and livery yard. This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone with a keen interest in horses and will provide you with the opportunity to develop a wide range of skills within the equine industry.

Annual wage
£11,398.40 to £20,374.64 a year

Monday – Thursday, 10am - 6.00pm (1 hour lunch) and Saturday, 9.00am - 4.00pm (45mins lunch).

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

Training

An apprenticeship includes regular training with a college or other training organisation. At least 20% of your working hours will be spent training or studying.

Course contents

Your training plan

  • Training will be provided both in the workplace and through day-release at Myerscough College where you will work towards a Level 2 Equine Groom Apprenticeship Standard

The end-point assessment will contain 3 components:

  • Knowledge Test (50 multiple choice questions lasting 75 mins). Minimum 70% pass mark to progress to other elements of End Point Assessment
  • Practical observation (Approx. 5 hours). Assessor will observe apprentice carrying out day-to-day role in workplace, asking questions where necessary
  • Professional Discussion (lasting 60 - 75 min) Based around portfolio
  • There will be 2 levels of achievement: Pass & Distinction

Requirements

Essential qualifications

GCSE or equivalent in:

  • 2 other subjects (grade 2-9/E-A*)
  • English (grade 2-9/E-A*)
  • Maths (grade 2-9/E-A*)

Let the company know about other relevant qualifications and industry experience you have. They can adjust the apprenticeship to reflect what you already know.

Other requirements

You will be expected to work outdoors in all weather conditions To ensure your application has the best chance of being considered for the vacancy you must provide information on all qualifications undertaken stating highest grades achieved in every subject, paying particular attention to maths and English. Along with this you need to state any previous work experience.
