Summary
The role of the Engineering Apprentice is to develop the necessary welding and fabrication skills required to ensure that products are safely manufactured on time and to the required quality standard.

Fabdec work a 37 hour week over a 5 day period, Monday to Thursday 08.30 to 17.00 and 08.30 to 14.00 on Friday, including a 30 minute lunch break. Overtime is worked as required.

Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
Key Responsibilities
- To develop the necessary skills through on-job development and off-site training (welding, brazing, hand tools, workshop equipment etc) required in the production of fabdec products and services.
- To attend all college days and complete all necessary assignments as required.
- To follow all health & safety procedures and report any accidents or near misses.
- To ensure that all products are manufactured to the required quality level, by ensuring that the correct drawings, materials and methods have been used throughout the manufacturing process.
- To ensure that the work areas are maintained in a clean and tidy state.
- To assist as required in the development of new products and processes.
- To comply with any task deemed necessary for the running of the organisation.

The qualification the apprentice will achieve in this apprenticeship is the Level 2 Engineering Operative apprenticeship standard.
Day release will involve attending SBC Training in Shrewsbury one day a week.
Skills, Knowledge and Behaviours – Learners and employers will have a range of options to select from that cover each knowledge module of the apprenticeship standard.
Functional Skills - These provide practical skills to help gain the most out of work, education and everyday life. Learners will complete written and online tests.
End point assessment - The End Point Assessment is the final stage of the apprenticeship. It comprises written and practical tests as well as a professional dialogue and interview.
