Summary

We have a space for a trainee graphic designer. Applicant will be using software such as Coral Draw, Illustrator and photoshop, being already familiar with these programs would be an advantage. Candidate will be working in an office with experienced graphic designers so a good opportunity to learn and develop. All equipment and training provided.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

We're looking for a pro-active, enthusiastic and hard-working individual to be part of our wonderful team. This role allows an enthusiastic and creative individual to explore and develop their experience within design and marketing.

You will work closely with our main designer & business development team and learn a variety of skills, in design, client expectation & marketing needed to thrive in this role. The candidate, if successful, will use design software to create artwork for use on vehicles, signage and exhibitions.

The candidate will also manage a business presence on a number of social media platforms, this will only be a small part of their role. The candidate will receive training from experienced managers with marketing and graphic design experience.

Following a successfully completed apprenticeship there is huge scope for promotion, in an ideal situation the apprentice will continue with the company and longer term supervise the social media team.

The role requires initiative and creativity to create on brief designs for the many clients Bayside looks after The candidate will also learn to use our client portal & CRM system to fully communicate with our customer base.

As we are a small business having multi-skilled staff is crucial, if required our staff may need to work in production as well. No operation of specialised equipment is required you would simply be required to help with boxing, taping, maintaining the warehouse and booking in post. Candidate must constantly be up to date with social trends and take initiative in finding new and alternative ways to market our products. Candidate must have a good phone manner and be comfortable with speaking to current and potential customers. You must be organised and look to go above and beyond for the business.

  • Interpret the aims of the brief.
  • Research ideas and concepts to meet the brief.

  • Prepare a mood board or other visual aid for the content to be created.
  • Present ideas, pitches and proposals for creative content to be further developed.
  • Storyboard and outline script their ideas for content to be developed.
  • Interpret data, consider its integrity and use it to inform content.
  • Develop accessible written content for different platforms and devices.
  • Apply best practice and inclusive language when creating content.
  • Write and edit copy or scripts for use on different channels and platforms.
  • Create or capture visuals and audio using standard packages and equipment.
  • Source, obtain and prepare media assets for use; using industry standard packages to adapt and edit content.
  • Use industry standard tools and content management systems to organise, structure and label content effectively, methodically and securely enabling efficient search and retrieval.
  • Identify and recommend the platform/s or channel/s to use for the media campaign.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with clients, colleagues and suppliers, establishing and using professional contacts.
  • Engage and respond with audiences through social media, adapting content to respond to evolving circumstances.
  • Monitor user experience to ensure content is focused on maximising engagement.
  • Analyse the differences between audiences using audience segmentation techniques and data.

    In addition to the training provided within the workplace, weekly taught sessions will take place at South Devon College, Paignton Campus to support with the knowledge element of the apprenticeship.

    English and Maths will also be a requirement for those who do not have the required grades.

    Other requirements

    Candidate MUST pass 1 month probation. You will have a flexible approach, will be well organised and able to work under pressure as on occasions, there will be tight deadlines. The ideal candidate is an innovative digital native comfortable using social media platforms and speaking to customers. You will have good communication skills, both written and verbal, as you will be expected to deal with telephone enquiries and a wide range of correspondence, In addition, you will have the ability to work as part of a team within existing working protocols and procedures whilst being proactive and using your initiative within the scope of the job role.
