Summary

Our teaching assistant apprenticeship (L3) programme will teach many different skills. You will be based in a classroom environment with young people. You will help support the young learners within their lessons and also be involved in planning lessons. (Students aged 11- 16).

£12,147.20 a year

£7.40 per hour. This will automatically increase to the NMW for your age after the 1st year.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

Support for Pupils:

  • Supervise and provide particular support for pupils, ensuring their safety and access to learning activities.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of Individual Education/Behaviour Plans and Personal Care programmes, including toileting, washing, dressing, eating, and individual feeding programmes.
  • Establish constructive relationships with pupils and interact with them according to individual needs.
  • Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils.
  • Assist, where appropriate, with integration links and community skills.
  • Encourage pupils to interact with others and engage in activities led by the teacher.
  • Set challenging and demanding expectations and promote self-esteem and independence.
  • Provide feedback to pupils about progress and achievement under the guidance of the teacher.
  • In partnership with the appropriate therapists, have a significant role in the implementation of individual therapy programmes.

Support for Teachers:

  • Create and maintain a purposeful, orderly, and supportive environment, assisting with lesson plans and the display of pupils’ work.
  • Be a team member managing a consistent approach when working with pupils with challenging behaviours.
  • Use strategies, in liaison with the teacher, to support pupils to achieve learning goals.
  • Assist with the planning of learning activities.
  • Monitor pupils’ responses to learning activities and accurately record achievement/progress as directed.
  • Provide detailed and regular feedback to teachers on pupils’ achievement, progress, problems, etc.
  • Promote good pupil behaviour, dealing promptly with conflict and incidents in line with established policy, and encouraging pupils to take responsibility for their own behaviour.
  • Establish constructive relationships with parents/carers.

  • Apply strategies to support and encourage the development of independent learners.
  • Adapt communication strategies for the audience and context.
  • Apply behaviour management strategies in line with organisational policy.
  • Adapt resources to support all learners.
  • Communicate with teachers to ensure clarity of the TA’s role.
  • Apply teaching strategies to deliver learning activities or interventions.
  • Build relationships with learners, teachers, other professionals and stakeholders.
  • Comply with legislation, guidance, and procedures for Prevent, safeguarding and health & safety.
  • Support the well-being and mental health of learners.
  • Observe, record, and report on learners in line with organisational procedures.
  • Apply methods of formative assessment.
  • Use up to date technology safely, to support learning.
  • Encourage safe use of technology by learners.
  • Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning).
  • Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
  • Provide feedback to learners.

    • Qualification: Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship Standard 
    • Duration of course: 16 months
    • Training Provider: LMP Education (Rated BEST UK provider)
    • All learning delivered online/ remotely alongside the full-time placement at the school.

    GCSE in:

    • Maths and English (grade 4)
