Summary

We are currently recruiting for a Bodyshop Paint Apprentice. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to work with one of the world's most prestigious and technologically advanced car manufacturers. You will be working in our BMW Vehicle Distribution Centre in Thorne, Doncaster to the high standards of the brand.

£13,312 a year

In Year 1 you will be paid the Apprenticeship rate. In years 2 and 3 you will be paid the minimum wage for your age.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

  • The preparation and application of foundation materials and topcoat
  • An awareness of different paint systems, paint equipment, special effect paints
  • Quality vehicle checks
  • Vehicle damage assessments

Course contents
  • Ability to undertake appropriate job preparation prior to commencing repair, including safety precautions, panel preparation and body measurements.
  • Ability to identify the material used in the construction to enable the correct joining techniques and manufacturer specifications to be adhered to.
  • Ability to interpret relevant technical data and methods to make sure that any joints are in line with vehicle manufacturer specification and the vehicle/body panels are aligned correctly
  • Ability to identify and understand the correct joining technology, e.g. when to use resistance spot welding or mig brazing or bonding.
  • Ability to remove, repair and replace vehicle body panels and components of the vehicle safely and efficiently
  • Ability to identify and operate the correct repair tools, equipment and devices used in the process, panel pulling systems, jig and alignment tools, spot welders, brazing tools.
  • Ability to identify and communicate supplementary damage such as panels that were deemed to be reparable but once worked on were found to be beyond repair along with damage that could not be established on original inspection.
  • Ability to detect and rectify faults within a vehicles structure that’s integral to its safety
  • Your training plan

    All BMW Bodyshop Apprentices (Paint & Panel) attend a centralised body training facility for their off-the-job training. This centre is equipped with BMW Cars and BMW Colour Systems to ensure that apprentices are trained to the highest standards. You may have to stay away from home in weekly blocks of training. You will also be trained on the job.

    GCSE in:

    • English and Maths (grade A-C or 9-4)

    Other requirements

    Successful applicants must be prepared to travel to the body training facility to complete their apprenticeship training. Training is completed in one-week blocks approximately once every two-three months. All training costs are covered by the BMW Retailer/Bodyshop (travel, accommodation and food). All Bodyshop Technician (Paint & Panel) Apprentices will be employed at their local workplace and will attend our body training facility for their training.     About this company

    GBA Group Ltd was formed in 1987 We employ more than 900 people Initially established as Ships Agents in Hull but went into Terminal Management 30 years ago! Terminal locations in ports around the country such as Grimsby, Southampton and Tyne We work with most Vehicle Brands including Volvo, Mazda, Honda, BMW and Aston Martin. In January 2024, GBA took over the BMW Distribution Centre in Thorne. We run the workshops and movement of the vehicles on transporters to the BMW Dealers around the country.

    On successful completion of the apprenticeship, you will progress to become a fully qualified Bodyshop Paint Technician.  Having been trained to BMW/Mini Standard you will have World Class Skills.
