Summary

In this you will be working as part of a small team. Your primary role will be a managing a portfolio of client websites and developing new websites from start to finish. We are looking for someone who is willing to learn on the job and pick up the knowledge and experience shared by members of the team.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

  • Creating fully responsive websites and web applications using HTML, Javascript, PHP and MySQL
  • PHP- Experience and good knowledge in PHP would very advantageous
  • Ability to edit existing websites
  • MySQL – Some experience in solving online queries
  • HTML/CSS/JQuery - Demonstrable skills with front end web technologies
  • You will be required to communicate with customers and other staff members and provide support to existing websites
  • You will be required to manage your own individual projects and meet agreed deadlines
  • We offer an incredibly large variety of projects to work on, that all have different technical aspects so there is always more to learn

Course contents
  • create logical and maintainable code
  • develop effective user interfaces
  • link code to data sets
  • test code and analyse results to correct errors found using unit testing
  • conduct a range of test types, such as Integration, System, User Acceptance, Non-Functional, Performance and Security testing.
  • identify and create test scenarios
  • apply structured techniques to problem solving, debug code and understand the structure of programmes in order to identify and resolve issues
  • create simple software designs to effectively communicate understanding of the program
  • create analysis artefacts, such as use cases and/or user stories
  • build, manage and deploy code into the relevant environment
  • apply an appropriate software development approach according to the relevant paradigm (for example object oriented, event driven or procedural)
  • follow software designs and functional or technical specifications
  • follow testing frameworks and methodologies
  • follow company, team or client approaches to continuous integration, version and source control
  • communicate software solutions and ideas to technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • apply algorithms, logic and data structures
  • interpret and implement a given design whist remaining compliant with security and maintainability requirements

    • Create logical and maintainable codes for software development
      Apply security best practice to the software solution throughout the software development life cycle
    • Apply appropriate recovery techniques to ensure the software solution being developed is not lost
    • Implement accurate and effective change control
    • Undertake unit testing of solutions, with appropriate levels of test code coverage, to identify and resolve issues
    • Apply suitable 'bug fixes' based on severity and priority

    Requirements

    Essential qualifications

    GCSE in:

    • English Language and Maths (grade A*-C/9-4 or equivalent)

    Let the company know about other relevant qualifications and industry experience you have. They can adjust the apprenticeship to reflect what you already know.
