Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

An exciting opportunity has arisen to further your career in Early Years at this immaculate nursery in Leeds.  It is essential that you have either Level 2 or Level 3 Early Years qualification to be considered for this role. 

Depending on your current qualification you will work towards the Level 3 or Level 5 Early Years qualification.

This is a full-time role which will require flexibility between the hours 7.30am-6pm Monday-Friday. Contracted for 40 hours per week.

During your working day you will:

  • Protect and promote the health and well-being of children
  • Ensure that safeguarding procedures are followed
  • Promote positive relationships in the early years setting
  • Support children’s learning and development through play
  • Be a key person to a small group of children and build positive relationships with their families
  • Monitor children’s progress to ensure they reach their developmental targets
  • Plan and create activities which keep children engaged throughout the day
  • Enable children to become more independent
  • Help prepare children for the transition into school life

We are looking for candidates that have prior experience and qualifications in early Years who want to further their career and can:

  • Communicate well and be a good role model
  • Work as part of a team and inspire outstanding practice
  • Act professionally in all situations
  • Have knowledge of the EYFS and Safeguarding requirements
  • Work on your own initiative
  • Keep high standard of hygiene practices around the nursery

Course contents
  • Recognise when a child or a colleague is in danger or at risk of abuse and act to protect them in line with safeguarding policy and procedure.
  • Apply legislation, policy and procedure to protect the health, safety and wellbeing of children in the setting (for example, food safety, diets, starting solid food, allergies, COSHH, and accidents, injuries, and emergencies).
  • Apply the principles of risk assessment and risk management within documentation and practice.
  • Teach children to develop skills to manage risk and maintain their own and others safety.
  • Use a range of communication methods, including technology, with other professionals to meet the individual needs of the child.
  • Develop and maintain effective professional, collaborative relationships with others involved in the education and care of the child.
  • Undertake the role and responsibilities of key person.
  • Recognise and apply theories of attachment to develop effective relationships with children.
  • Provide sensitive and respectful personal care for children from birth to 5 years.
  • Advocate for all children’s needs, including children which require SEND or EAL support.
  • Promote and facilitate children’s interpersonal communication to develop their social interactions and relationships.
  • Support children to develop a positive sense of their own identity and culture.
  • Support children to understand and respond to their emotions and make considered choices about their behaviours.
  • Assess the responsiveness of the environment for effective child-centred experiences in line with curriculum requirements.
  • Create inclusive, child-centred, dynamic, innovative, and evolving physical environments both indoors and outdoors.
  • Create inclusive and supportive emotional environment that enables the child to feel safe, secure, respected and experience a sense of wellbeing; maintaining and prioritising the individual child’s voice.
  • Apply strategies that support children’s ability to manage change, transition, and significant events.
  • Analyse observation evidence to assess and plan holistic individual learning based on a comprehensive understanding of the child’s needs and interests.
  • Facilitate and support child-centred opportunities and experiences based on the setting's curriculum and pedagogy.
  • Provide adult led opportunities and experience based on the setting's curriculum and pedagogy.
  • Use reflection to develop themselves both professionally and personally.
  • Your training plan

    You will be supported by an assessor throughout your apprenticeship.

    As you progress through your apprenticeship your duties and responsibilities will alter as you develop the skills for a successful career in childcare.

    Training will be a mix of face to face and online learning.

    You will gain an Early years Level 3 or Level 5 qualification.

    Functional Skills in maths and English if required.

    Essential qualifications

    GCSE or equivalent in:

    • Maths and English (grade 4)
    • Early Years Practitioner (grade 2)

    Other requirements

    This is an immaculate nursery where standards are exceptionally high. A busy nursery that makes full use of the indoor and outdoor facilities in all weathers. Open 7.30am to 6pm Monday to Friday (51 weeks of the year). Initial Interview will be online, followed by show round of the facilities and a work trial. Immediate start available
