Summary

The opportunity to start a career within construction, with a recognised company working on iconic jobs such as Canary Wharf. As an apprentice, you will be on a development plan and a career mentor to help your progression throughout your apprenticeship. We offer our apprentices a competitive salary, 20 days annual leave, and work social nights.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

As an apprentice formworker you will learn to work with different types of traditional and system formwork.

This will involve:

  • Working from specifications and drawings to make, set out and fix to the correct height of different types of vertical formwork
  • Erect any and all falsework as required to support formwork
  • You will learn to plan the most efficient and productive working sequence to construct and erect formwork while working with other trades in the same area

Course contents
  • Communicate in a clear and appropriate manner (verbal, written, body language). Adjusts communication to suit different situations, individuals or teams.
  • Apply general workplace health, safety and welfare requirements when undertaking construction formworking/falseworking activities.
  • Practice safe working techniques for moving, lifting and handling traditional and proprietary formwork system; which will include working at heights and using access equipment.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of planning and able to undertake different methods of construction used to build structures productively. Competent to read, interpret and apply information from drawings, specifications and construction information.
  • Takes ownership of allocated projects and effectively manages own time.
  • Use a range of methods used to communicate workplace requirements effectively and demonstrate how key personnel should communicate effectively within a team.
  • Form and assemble horizontal and vertical formwork as per design drawings and repair, erect and strike formworking.
  • Erect, Strike formwork/ falsework and its components for a range of applications including wall, slabs/bases, columns, beams and precast units to support concrete.
  • Competent to safely use, store and maintain hand tools, power tools and ancillary equipment.

    Formworker Level 2 Apprenticeship Standard:

    • You will work on one of our 'live' projects and receive training from a recognised provider either one day a week or on a block release
    • Functional Skills maths and English (if required)

    Essential qualifications

    Other in:

    • Labourers Card (grade Green)

    Desirable qualifications

    GCSE or equivalent in:

    • English (grade 4)
    • Maths (grade 4)

    After this apprenticeship

    • Once you have achieved the Level 2 qualification you will have the opportunity to progress to the next level. Ultimately, and depending on the individual, you could advance to a supervisory or management role within the construction industry
