As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

Grapevine nursery is currently looking for someone with extensive nursery experience and/or Level 2 Early Years apprenticeship qualification to join the team at their Handsworth nursery.  Grapevine offers excellent nursery provision to children from ages 3 months+.

Whilst employed by Grapevine the successful applicant will work towards their Level 3 Early Years Educator Apprenticeship Qualification.  Skern training will support you through your Level 3 Early Years Apprenticeship and the experienced team at the nursery will support your development in the workplace.

Grapevine is a very busy nursery where no two days are ever the same.  With a wide range of ages of children attending the nursery you will be involved in an array of activities both inside and outside.

This is a full-time role of 30 hours per week which will require flexibility between the hours 7.30am-5.30pm Monday-Friday.

Duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Supporting the development of the childcare provision
  • Providing an excellent range of activities that ensures that the child learns whilst having fun
  • Assisting the facility in meeting OFSTED requirements
  • Providing challenging and stimulating activities for all children appropriately
  • Ensuring that all health and hygiene requirements are always adhered to  
  • Responsibility for equal opportunity in delivery, access and attitude in aspects of service delivery and management
  • Working with teams across the centre
  • Supporting children’s learning and development, including supporting planning and observations
  • Preparing and maintaining the environment and resources for the children
  • Preparation of food for breakfast, snack and afternoon tea
  • Supporting children’s self-help needs

We are looking for candidates that have prior experience and qualifications in early years who want to further their career and can:

  • Follow safeguarding rules
  • Work within confidentiality guidelines
  • Be a team player
  • Be creative and enthusiastic

You will be required to:

  • Undertake First Aid training as required
  • Undertake training as appropriate to meet any changes in standards or appropriate legal requirements as required
  • Complete Level 3 Early Years Educator Apprenticeship qualification with Skern Training during your employment

It would be an advantage for candidates to have Functional Skills, Maths and English at Grade 4 or above.  For successful candidates who do not hold functional skills at the required level they must be prepared to undertake these alongside the apprenticeship.

  • Recognise when a child or a colleague is in danger or at risk of abuse and act to protect them in line with safeguarding policy and procedure.
  • Apply legislation, policy and procedure to protect the health, safety and wellbeing of children in the setting (for example, food safety, diets, starting solid food, allergies, COSHH, and accidents, injuries, and emergencies).
  • Apply the principles of risk assessment and risk management within documentation and practice.
  • Teach children to develop skills to manage risk and maintain their own and others safety.
  • Use a range of communication methods, including technology, with other professionals to meet the individual needs of the child.
  • Develop and maintain effective professional, collaborative relationships with others involved in the education and care of the child.
  • Undertake the role and responsibilities of key person.
  • Recognise and apply theories of attachment to develop effective relationships with children.
  • Provide sensitive and respectful personal care for children from birth to 5 years.
  • Advocate for all children’s needs, including children which require SEND or EAL support.
  • Promote and facilitate children’s interpersonal communication to develop their social interactions and relationships.
  • Support children to develop a positive sense of their own identity and culture.
  • Support children to understand and respond to their emotions and make considered choices about their behaviours.
  • Assess the responsiveness of the environment for effective child-centred experiences in line with curriculum requirements.
  • Create inclusive, child-centred, dynamic, innovative, and evolving physical environments both indoors and outdoors.
  • Create inclusive and supportive emotional environment that enables the child to feel safe, secure, respected and experience a sense of wellbeing; maintaining and prioritising the individual child’s voice.
  • Apply strategies that support children’s ability to manage change, transition, and significant events.
  • Analyse observation evidence to assess and plan holistic individual learning based on a comprehensive understanding of the child’s needs and interests.
  • Facilitate and support child-centred opportunities and experiences based on the setting's curriculum and pedagogy.
  • Provide adult led opportunities and experience based on the setting's curriculum and pedagogy.
  • Use reflection to develop themselves both professionally and personally.
  • Your training plan

    • You will be supported by an assessor throughout your apprenticeship. As you progress through your apprenticeship your duties and responsibilities will alter as you develop the skills for a successful career in childcare
    • Training will be a mix of face to face and online learning
    • You will gain an Early years educator level 3 qualification
    • Functional Skills in maths and English if required

    Requirements

    Essential qualifications

    NVQ or SVQ Level 2 or equivalent in:

    • Early Years Practitioner (grade 2)

    Desirable qualifications

    GCSE or equivalent in:

    • Maths and English (grade 4)

    Other requirements

    Activities can vary at this busy nursery open from 7.30am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday and the role will be physically demanding. Start as soon as possible. We are looking for candidates who already have relevant knowledge or experience in childcare and hold Level 2 Early Years Practitioner Apprenticeship qualification.
