Summary

We are looking for a bright, enthusiastic Apprentice Production Chef to join our team. Joining our small but successful community-owned pub as an Apprentice Chef offers a unique opportunity to develop your culinary skills in a supportive environment. Here, you will benefit from hands-on experience with multiple menus that cater for a wide audience.

Annual wage
£13,312 to £23,795.20 a year

Wage range is dependent on age and experience. There is a bonus scheme and we would look to increase pay in line with experience and good performance.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

Duties and Responsibilities

An average day will be a mix of learning, practicing and helping with various kitchen tasks. Typical duties will include:

  • Prepping ingredients,
  • Practicing your knife skills,
  • Making stocks and sauces,
  • Baking - helping to prepare dishes,

Taking on more complicated tasks as your skills develop:

  • Cleaning and helping to restock the kitchen
  • Assisting the Head Chef with special events
  • Learning how to put together a menu including costings

  • Check, prepare, assemble, cook, regenerate, hold and present food meeting the needs of the customers and maintaining organisational standards and procedures.
  • Use kitchen tools and equipment correctly to produce consistently high quality dishes according to specifications.
  • Take responsibility for the cleanliness, organisation and smooth running of the work area.
  • Produce dishes to suit individuals’ specific dietary, religious and allergenic  needs as required.
  • Operate within all regulations, legislation and procedural requirements.
  • Complete and maintain documentation to meet current legislative guidelines.
  • Use effective methods of communication with all colleagues, managers and customers to promote a positive image of yourself and the organisation.
  • Work in a fair and empathetic manner to support team members while offering a quality provision.
  • Work to ensure customer expectations are met.
  • Work collaboratively to uphold the vision, values and objectives of the organisation.
  • Use technology appropriately.
  • Maintain quality and consistency in food production by using resources in line with organisations’ financial constraints, style, specifications and ethos.
  • Identify own learning style, personal development needs and opportunities and take action to meet those needs.
  • Use feedback positively to improve performance. 
  • Your training plan

    • The successful candidate will work towards achieving their Apprenticeship Standard qualification in Production Chef Level 2.
    • A dedicated work-based trainer will be assigned to the candidate to provide them with support and guidance throughout the course.
    • This is a predominently work-based programme with College attendance required once a month. All learning will take place at the candidate's place of employment/College and within their contracted working hours.
    • Functional Skills in maths and English, if required.

    Other requirements

    A kitchen is a warm and sometimes uncomfortable environment and hours can be long. Some manual work is required carrying and safely storing stock etc.

    About this company

    We are a community owned rural pub with bed and breakfast rooms and a small shop. We are open 7 days a week offering both food and drink and have a coffee morning on a Wednesday alongside an Out-Reach Post Office.

    After this apprenticeship

    • On successful completion of the Apprenticeship, we would hope to employ the apprentice as an Assistant Chef in the kitchen once they are qualified and continue to develop with on-the-job training
