Summary

At GR SCOTT Ltd we are a small family-run business, our grandfather set the business up in 1963 and we are now in the 3rd generation of the family. We are looking for someone to join our small team of people within the office area, to support with CAD drawings and site visits along with working on orders and quotes to send to our customers.

Annual wage
£13,145.60 a year

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

As well as CAD work, you will also learn a few aspects of the factory side of things too as we believe this helps you have an understanding of the whole picture.

1. Throughout your apprenticeship, you will be trained in a wide range of operational tasks.

2. Understanding Works Orders detailing materials, sizes, equipment and drawings.

3. Health & Safely & correctly operating machines with correct tooling.

4. Following processes to ensure the parts are manufactured to the highest quality.

5. Monitor and top up materials as needed and report to the manager for anything getting low in stock.

Working on a variety of incredible projects from a wide range of customers, as an apprentice technician your role will evolve to be able to develop engineering calculations and sketches into 2D CAD drawings. You will also setup, manage and coordinate your models/drawings with other engineering disciplines and will work closely with some of our team in the office and down in the factory. You will also go on site visits to measue up to be able to do the drawing from. As part GR Scott Ltd team you will develop your digital knowledge and skills mainly in the office.

You will support the office-based team with some other admin duties when needed and possibly process quotes and orders as part of your role.

You will also be expected to:

  • Ensure service and project work are carried out to an excellent standard - within agreed deadlines
  • Prepare technical specifications, design development and innovative design solutions
  • Plan and manage input to Computer Aided Design programmes for the production of design work
  • Assist in the management of projects
  • Represent the company as part of a team attending design team meetings or meetings with client and other design team professionals

Your training plan

The apprentice will complete the Level 3 Design and Draughtsperson apprenticeship.

In this programme, you will study towards the product design pathway

  • Pearson BTEC Diploma Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Technical Knowledge)
  • EAL NVQ Diploma in Engineering Technical Support Level 3

The apprentice will have a depth and breadth of English and mathematics that allow them to operate successfully within their role. This may be met through entry criteria determined by the employer or qualifications and training within the apprenticeship. However, on completion, all apprentices will have minimum level 2 qualifications in English and mathematics.

The apprentice will attend Castleford College on day release.

Training schedule has yet to be agreed upon, further details will be made available at a later date.

After this apprenticeship

We are looking for someone to join our busy fast paced team Based in Ossett. You will start as an apprentice and our aim is to take you on after the 12 months course, as a permanent member of the team. Your training will still continue throughout the business even after you have finished your apprenticeship.
