Summary

We have an exciting position available for someone ambitious to join our Accounts department in a growing Plumbing and Heating Company. The apprentice will learn the complete accounts, working from our supportive, friendly office in Dedham, Colchester. The successful individual will learn all aspects of accounts, bookkeeping, payments, payroll etc.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

Day-to-day role responsibilities include:

  • Taking and making payments 
  • Reconciling the bank account 
  • Inputting invoices onto Sage 
  • Raising and posting invoices
  • Production of monthly management accounts 
  • Processing of year end accounts 
  • Payroll for 25 employees 
  • Preparing monthly accrual, prepayment and P & L related schedules 
  • Assist with the budget and forecasting processes 
  • To communicate effectively and professionally with people in the business, builders and customers 
  • Assist with other departments within the business - this will involve customer care and office admin duties

Course contents
  • Record transactional data.
  • Use the organisation’s standard tools and processes to examine data to identify transactional issues such as, reconciliations and inconsistencies between invoices.
  • Recognise and rectify routine errors, escalating as necessary.
  • Plan and review accounting and finance tasks.
  • Communicate with stakeholders to deliver accurate and timely results, avoiding jargon, using language tailored to the audience and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.
  • Use finance and accounting software packages to accurately input and manage data to contribute to routine accounting tasks.
  • Handle data and digital technology in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.
  • Your training plan

    • The apprentice will be working towards the Accounts or Finance Assistant Level 2 apprenticeship standard including the AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting
    • Colchester Institute have partnered with Mindful Education to deliver this apprenticeship through our Online and On Campus model
    • Classroom attendance at Colchester Institute (Colchester Campus) every other week

    Essential qualifications

    GCSE or equivalent in:

    • maths and English (grade A*-C/9-4)

    Other requirements

    This office is located in a remote position in Dedham, so the individual will need reliable transport. We also have a wheelchair friendly office.

    About this company

    We are a plumbing and heating business that mainly work on new build housing estates. We cover all of Essex and Suffolk and work at around 25 to 30 sites at any time. We also take on smaller domestic jobs in Dedham and surrounding areas. We have 25 employees and 35 sub contract plumbers working for us. The business formed over 22 years ago and is still growing steadily.
