Summary
Driving Spirit is a classic restoration specialist who can cater for all of your motoring needs. They are recruiting for a Coachbuilding Apprentice to carry out the restoration and repair of Citroën 2CVs and derivatives, alongside other classic cars. Carrying out all elements of restoration including different methods of welding and fabrication.

Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
This apprenticeship combines old-school coachbuilding with the use of cutting-edge technology. Apprentices will be taught about:
- The history and development of materials and vehicle construction
- Hand skills, technical drawing and pattern development and welding
- Fabrication including bending, folding, shrinking and stretching
- Wheeling, making bucks, removal and replacement of components
The successful applicant will work with Master Coachbuilders building unique iconic vehicles.

The ‘Heritage Engineering Level 3 Apprenticeship’ is a nationally recognised qualification delivered by ‘HSA’ from its Coachbuilding Academy based at ‘Brooklands Museum’ in Surrey. Delivered over 36-months on a block release basis, you will attend your academy on average every 5 weeks for a 5-day block of training running from Monday to Friday, the remaining 80% of the time you will be working with your employer. If required, your employer will cover the Accommodation and travel costs.

About this company
Driving Spirit is a small garage business established in 2016 to specialise in ‘Visionary Vehicles’ - essentially, vehicles whose design and engineering ethos is particularly free-thinking. Including all aspects of restoration such as rebuilding of engines and gearboxes, different methods of welding, fabrication, preparation and paintwork and a certain amount of re upholstery to Citroen 2CVs, derivatives and other classic cars.
After this apprenticeship
On completion of the Programme, you will be qualified as a Heritage Engineering Technician. Employment with Driving Spirit after completion of the apprenticeship is not guaranteed but very likely, subject to performance and a position being available.
The classic vehicle industry is thriving and the companies that HSA work with are world-class. Prospects for progression range from specialist technical roles to management positions and international work opportunities.
