What you’ll do at work
An exciting opportunity has arisen at Durrant House Hotel for a keen Apprentice Chef to join the friendly team at our busy hotel and to be trained under the supervision of our highly experienced professional chef.
We are seeking highly motivated individual to add to our ambitious kitchen team.
You will perform many basic tasks of food preparation to start with and have a natural flair for cooking.
Someone who relishes the pressure of the kitchen environment, ensuring standards are met and maintained.

As an Apprentice Chef you will be expected to learn the dishes as shown to you, to the standard set by the head chef, at this stage of your career it is understood that you are still learning.
You will remain calm while multi-tasking, as he or she will often be called upon to carry out many different duties simultaneously in a brief amount of time.
This is a full-time position with great development possibilities for the right individual who is looking for a career not just a job.
The pay will be reviewed after 3 months if you are performing well.
·Be responsible for maintaining up to date product and menu knowledge and maintaining a high standard of food preparation and presentation, ensuring portion and quality control.
·Support with collecting and checking deliveries as required and placing them in the appropriate storage areas.
·Be responsible for ensuring high standards of cleanliness of all areas in the kitchen and of equipment.
·Ensure food preparation and control meets requirements in respect of COSHH, Food Safety and Health & Safety regulations are adhered to, and any incidents are reported in line with procedures.
You will also be required to keep up to date with all Apprenticeship work.
To become an apprentice, you must:
Be 16 years or over.
Not already be in full-time education.
You can start an apprenticeship whether you’re starting your career, want a change. You can have a previous qualification like a degree and still start an apprenticeship.
As an apprentice you’ll:
Have regular one to one sessions with a dedicated trainer either remotely or through visits to your workplace
Learn and train for a specific job.
Get paid and receive holiday leave.
Get hands-on experience in a real job.
Study for at least 20% of your working hours.
Complete assessments during and at the end of your apprenticeship

Level 2 Production Chef Apprenticeship
Apprenticeship standards are aimed at developing skills within the apprentices chosen career route.
Each standard has set knowledge, skills, and behaviours required to be successful within the job role.
This will include the completion of functional skills in English and Maths where applicable.
Once the apprentice has completed a minimum of 12-months training, and the employer and Inspiro Learning regional trainer confirm they have met all the requirements of the standard, they will be put through to end point assessment.
The end point assessment is independent from the training and includes a variety of assessment methods which test the skills and knowledge of the apprentice to ensure they are fully competent in their role.

About this company
We are a busy all season 125-bedroom hotel located in Bideford. We have bookings from both private and coach guests. We offer conference, banqueting and meeting facilities. We also hold dance weekends and private functions. We have the Olive Tree Restaurant and Appledore Bar. Food is served in the hotel from 12.00 noon until 21:30pm. We also have a Spa offering beauty treatments to both residents and non-residents of the hotel.
