Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
The Business Administration Apprentice works with the Congregational Administration and Communication Team reporting to the Senior Executive Assistant (Organisational).
This role combines work-based experience alongside learning towards an NVQ Level 3 in Business Administration. Working as part of the Central Administrative Hub, which serves the FMDM Congregation worldwide, FMDM CIO, FMDM Foundation CIO and Franciscan Centre Ladywell CIO, you will provide high-quality, effective administrative and reception duties.
Duties will include, but not limited to:
- To work closely and collaboratively with other members of the Congregational Administration and Communication Team to ensure the administrative hub of the Congregation runs smoothly and in accordance with the ethos of the Congregation
- To respond to emails and forward them accordingly
- To support the central administrative hub in answering and directing phone calls, greeting guests and Sisters, answering the door and maintaining the reception area
- To organise and distribute incoming and outgoing post
- To support in the preparation and distribution of seasonal correspondence on behalf of the Congregation i.e., newsletters and social media
- To provide general administration to the CIOs to include
- filing and record keeping
- printing (e.g. booklets)
- copying and scanning
- data entry and overflow from the Senior Executive Assistants
- To support in the monitoring, ordering, installation and maintenance of stationery supplies
- To provide administrative support to the FMDM Archive including filing and inputting digital records as directed by the Congregational Archivist
- To support the administrative needs of the Sisters including being a presence to deal with simple IT enquiries and issues
General Requirements
- All Mission Partners are expected to be flexible in their duties and carry out any other duties commensurate with the level of the job role and within the general scope of the job, as requested.
- Duties and responsibilities must be carried out in accordance with relevant policies and procedures, with legislation and any code of professional ethics of any relevant professional body.
- Mission Partners are expected to maintain a high standard of customer care in the context of the FMDM values, to uphold health and safety standards and to participate in personal learning and development necessary to the post.
- To work within the FMDM competency framework and to adhere to the Positive Work Environment Policy.
Full training will be given in order to complete the above duties to the best of your ability. FMDM and Boom Training will provide ongoing support and guidance to help you with your apprenticeship studies.

- Functional Skills Level 2 in Maths & English if required
- Business Administrator Certificate from IFATE and City & Guilds

After this apprenticeship
If the apprentice proves to be successful with their duties, the role may be expanded beyond the apprenticeship but this would be dependent on the needs of the Charity at that time.
