Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

  • Training the Actuaries of the future, teaching that no problem is out of reach
  • The Actuarial function at Beazley comprises a range of diverse teams whose goal is to fundamentally help manage risk and provide insights to the business through complex modelling and statistical analysis
  • Our Actuarial function is made up of Reserving, Capital, Analytics, Pricing, IFRS 17 & Reporting and BIDAC teams which are overseen by the Chief Actuary. We team members in the UK, Republic of Ireland and across the US
  • Our actuaries are experts in their areas, undergoing years of professional qualifications as well as having significant industry experience and keeping up to date with industry developments to ensure we stay at the cutting edge of our profession
  • Join the Beazley actuarial grad programme and work across one of our various teams to drive real business value through modelling and insights
  • We offer our graduates a multi-year immersive training experience as well as help you to progress on a clear path to qualification

Course contents
  • Apply tools and techniques to assist strategic thinking needed for a role in wider management
  • Interpret the accounts and financial statements of companies and financial institutions
  • Build a model, analyse the data, methods used and outputs generated and document the work (including maintaining an audit trail for a fellow student and senior actuary)
  • Communicate the approach, results and conclusions to a senior actuary
  • Communicate effectively, both written and orally, when relating concepts used by actuaries to recipients without specialist actuarial expertise, using effective structure, appropriate language and adequate explanation
  • Apply actuarial techniques to analyse business problems and then formulate, justify and present plausible solutions for consideration
  • Your training plan

    • Actuary (Degree) Level 7 Apprenticeship Standard
    • Apprentices without level 2 English and maths will need to achieve this level prior to taking the end-point assessment

    More training information

    • The Actuary standard requires registration with the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA). Before apprentices can progress through the gateway, they must complete the Personal and Professional Development requirements of the IFoA Associateship level and pass IFoA exams: CT1 to CT9 (inclusive) and CA1 to CA3 (or the equivalent exams following the syllabus changes for the 2019 exams, ie CS1-2, CM1-2, CB1-3, CP1-3)
    • On completion, apprentices are eligible to apply for Associateship membership of the IFoA, subject to completing any further requirements as required by the professional body. As well as ensuring full competency as an Actuary, this standard provides the foundation for progression into Fellowship of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries

    • Any numerical degree (grade 1st or 2:1)
