Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
What You’ll Be Doing:
As a Health and Social Care Apprentice, your role will be diverse, hands-on, and truly impactful. You will be providing essential support to individuals who need assistance with their daily lives, helping them maintain dignity, independence, and well-being.
Here’s a breakdown of your key responsibilities:
Personal Care:
- Assist individuals with essential daily activities such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting
- Provide safe and respectful care, ensuring clients' comfort and privacy at all times
- Support individuals with mobility, using equipment and techniques to ensure their safety
Assisting with Daily Living:
- Help with meal preparation, feeding, and ensuring clients receive proper nutrition
- Assist with household tasks like laundry, cleaning, and organizing to maintain a clean and comfortable environment
- Accompany clients to appointments, social activities, or simply provide companionship during their day
Emotional and Social Support:
- Be a compassionate presence, offering emotional support to individuals dealing with illness, age-related challenges, or disabilities
- Encourage and promote independence wherever possible, helping individuals maintain control over their lives
- Actively engage clients in activities they enjoy, supporting their emotional well-being and reducing feelings of isolation
Collaboration with Healthcare Teams:
- Work closely with nurses, doctors, and other health professionals to ensure that care plans are followed accurately
- Report changes in clients' conditions or any concerns to senior healthcare staff
- Assist with rehabilitation exercises and other health-related activities under supervision
Maintaining Accurate Records:
- Keep detailed and accurate records of the care provided, including daily activities, mood, and health conditions
- Monitor and document any changes in the client’s physical or mental state
- Ensure all records are confidential and compliant with health and safety regulations
Health and Safety:
- Ensure the safety of individuals at all times, recognizing and addressing potential hazards
- Follow all infection control procedures to maintain a safe and healthy environment for both clients and colleagues
- Assist in administering prescribed medication under supervision, ensuring proper doses and timing
- Throughout your apprenticeship, you’ll be supported by mentors and supervisors, allowing you to grow in confidence and skill as you build a meaningful career in health and social care
