What you will do in your working day

Duties will include, but will not be limited to:

  • Minimize wastage and loss to business
  • Contribute to reviewing and refreshing menus in line with business and customer requirements
  • Use a range of craft preparation and basic cooking skills and techniques to prepare, cook and finish dishes and menu items
  • Ensure portion control
  • Ensure the presentation of the food and service is to the standard of the company.
  • Ensure excellence in cleanliness and standards across the operation
  • Report any issues maintenance or otherwise to H&S manager
  • Ensuring the food preparation areas are clean and hygienic
  • Washing utensils and dishes and making sure they are stored appropriately
  • Sorting, storing and distributing ingredients
  • Washing, peeling, chopping, cutting and cooking foodstuffs and helping to prepare salads and desserts
  • Disposing of rubbish
  • Cleaning the food preparation equipment, floors and other kitchen tools or areas

The training you will be getting

  • The successful candidate will work towards achieving their Apprenticeship Standard in Commis Chef Level 2
  • A dedicated work-based trainer will be assigned to the candidate to provide them with support and guidance throughout the course. This is a predominently work-based programme with College attendance required once a month. All learning will take place at the candidate's place of employment/College and within their contracted working hours.
